Existing Aadhaar cardholders:
- You must link your Aadhar and PAN prior to e-filing.
- Link it here if you haven't done so already.
- Log back in to ClearTax, fill up your Aadhar card/Aadhar enrollment number and then complete your e-filing.
The Department website is not allowing users to complete their e-filing without an Aadhaar card from July 1.
Apply for Aadhaar and quote the Aadhaar enrolment number in the tax return to complete e-filing.

I don't have Aadhaar. Can I still e-file?
No, you cannot e-file without Aadhaar card. If you don't have an Aadhaar card, please apply for one and quote the Aadhaar enrollment number.
Can I e-file a tax return without Aadhaar?
Yes, you can e-file a tax return without Aadhaar. But do note that starting July 1, 2017, your PAN becomes invalid if you don’t link your Aadhaar number on the Department website.
How should I go about linking my Aadhaar card with PAN?
I am not in India and I don't have Aadhaar card. Can I apply for Aadhaar card from outside India?
Only a resident Indian is entitled to sign up for the Aadhaar card in India. Indians, who’ve lived outside India for more than six months (182 days to be exact) in the last 12 months, don’t have to quote Aadhaar.
But if you have an Aadhaar card, it’s a good idea to link it anyway now.
I am not able to link my Aadhaar to PAN card because of a name mismatch. How should I resolve this?
Go to the Income Tax Department website and fill up your name as per PAN, as per your Aadhaar card and your Aadhaar number.
If there's a name mismatch, you'll receive an OTP on the phone linked to your Aadhaar card to continue.
For a date of birth mismatch, you can update either on the UIDAI website (for Aadhaar) or NSDL website (for PAN)
- Rectify it on the UIDAI website
- Or fill up an online application to change or correct information on your PAN card
When I am trying to link Aadhaar with PAN, I get a popup saying authentication failed.
Double check if you are entering the correct PAN.

I’m planning to return to India this year. Am I obligated to get my Aadhaar card done or am I exempted from the rule?
If you are returning to India and planning to be here for more than 6 months (182 days), you must get an Aadhaar card done in India.
When is the Aadhaar-PAN linking not compulsory?
Only non-resident Indians (NRIs) who’ve been living outside India for over 182 days in the last 12 months are not required to get an Aadhaar card in India.
If you have an Aadhaar card, login to the Department and link it on the Department website anyway.
I don’t fall in the taxable income bracket. Do I have to get Aadhaar or link it to PAN?
Considering that you may have to pay tax in the future, we recommend that you apply for an Aadhaar card if you don’t have one.
